However, I got caught up in a really amusing conversation with my coworker, and it completely slipped my  mind. I'm sorry for not being as prepared as I should have been, and I appreciate your understanding."

"Hello, I had every intention of reviewing our scheduled lesson in advance. Unfortunately, an unexpected and engaging  conversation with my coworker distracted me, and I didn't manage to prepare. I apologize for this oversight. Given the circumstances, might we consider having a free discussion today instead of the planned lesson? I believe it could still be productive for my learning."

"Hey, so I had planned to check out the lesson before our class today. But, man, I got into this hilarious chat with my  coworker and completely forgot about prepping. My bad, and thanks for bearing with me."

"Hey, so I was going to go over the lesson before our chat today, but I got so wrapped up in this super funny conversation with my coworker and totally forgot. Sorry about that. Do you think we could just have a free talk session today instead of the planned lesson? It might be more beneficial for me today."
