1. isn't for me 

: to express that something does not suit a person's tastes, preferences, or needs

("~는 나와 안 맞는다", "나는 ~ 이 별로다.") (물주구문입니다)

 

ex) Working from home isn't for me. I always get distracted. 

ex) I know he has a decent job, but guys like him aren't really for me. 

ex) Electric cars aren't for me. We have more charging stations around now, but it still feels like too much of a hassle. 

ex) Going on a blind date isn't for me. 

 

ex) A: Why don't we go out and get some nice sashimi? My treat!

      B: It's kind of you to offer, but raw fish just isn't for me. I can't get used to the texture. 

ex) A: I recommend watching "Stranger Things" to practice listening. 

      B: It's a good idea, but American shows aren't for me. I can't really get into the stories. 

ex) A: You're really great around kids. Have you ever thought of being a teacher?

      B: No, no. Teaching isn't really for me. I like to play with them but trying to make them study seems like hard work. 

ex) Hey, Greg. Do you remember that rowing machine I got for my birthday? Are you interested in it? Turns out it's not really for me. 


ex) This level of risk is not for the faint-hearted. 
: Suggests that only those comfortable with high levels of risk should engage with whatever is being discussed, as it's not suitable for people who are easily scared or stressed.

 

 

2. 목적을 나타내는 for

ex) I went out for dinner with Nick last night. 

     (I went out and had dinner with Nick last night. 보다 자연스럽다!)

ex) Can you stay for dinner?

ex) I actually went shopping for furniture at IKEA.

ex) Let's go out for some fresh air.

ex) I'm afraid I'll have to leave early for an interview.

ex) I have to fast, starting at 8 p.m., for my check-up tomorrow morning. 

ex) A: I'm taking the IELTS this weekend, and I hope to get at least a 6. 

      B: Oh, do you need that for a promotion?

ex) I understand that you want your package to arrive this week, but I'm afraid the only other option is via airmail, and you would have to pay twice as much for expedited shipping. Are you sure you'd like to go ahead with that? 

 

3. familiar

: If you are familiar with something, you know or understand it well.

 

ex) Are you familiar with the computer software they use? 

ex) You seem quite familiar with this neighborhood. 

ex) I didn't think I'd hiked for the north side of Namsan before, but now that I'm here, it seems familiar. 

ex) The bar didn't look familiar from the outside, but when I went in, I realized I had been there before. 

ex) I am quite familiar with OPIc, having taught preparatory classes for years. 

ex) A: Do I know you from somewhere? You look very familiar. 

     B: No, I don't think we've ever met. 

ex) A: The music in this commercial sounds familiar. Do you know what it is?

      B: Yeah, it's an old song by Shin Joong-hyun. What's the name? It's on the tip of my tongue. 

ex) For those who may not be familiar with the "FIRE movement", it stands for "Financial Independence, Retire Early." It's all about saving money while you're young, so you can make your career as short as possible. These people don't find meaning in work and would rather spend their time and energy on other things, like family and travel.
