1. mandatory
: required by law or rule
: "Mandatory" refers to something that is required by law or rules; it is obligatory and not optional.
ex) This meeting is mandatory for all employees.
(= All employees must go to this meeting.)
ex) It is mandatory for blood banks to test all donated blood for the virus.
ex) Maintaining records of all transactions is mandatory for at least five years for customs audit purposes.
ex) Athletes must undergo a mandatory drugs test before competing in the championship.
ex) In 1991, the British government made it mandatory to wear rear seat belts in cars.
2. modify
: if you modify sth, you change it slightly, usually in order to improve it.
ex) These ideas are still used today, though in a slightly modified form.
ex) Stories and characters had to be modified to fit a 21st-century audience.
ex) The club members did agree to modify their recruitment policy.
ex) You may need to modify your plans a little.
ex) Can you modify the documents to remove the discrepancies and ensure they match?
